Most often you can find people, coming out of PTE Test Centers, conversing this way: Guy 1: How was your exam? Guy 2: Man, I was performing so well in Listening, Writing and Reading but the speaking section put me in dire straits!! Guy 1: Same here, I personally found the Describe Image and Re-tell Lecture extremely tricky! Guy 2: I’ve lost all hope of achieving the targeted score. Wish I had practiced more… For majority of people, the speaking section of PTE is not less than a rocket science. They often face problems with pronunciation, fluency, accents, and grammar, which ultimately reflect in their score. Hence, one must have to make sure to practice enough and get acquainted with each section of this module. Given below are some of the most useful tips you can follow to prepare well and boost your confidence for the exam. Repeat Sentence In order to excel in repeat sentence section, make a habit of writing down the important keywords. Apart from that, use commas or pause for a while to break the sentence. This way, you can recreate the sentence correctly and repeat the content of the recording easily. Besides, a clear pronunciation also goes a long way in PTE; hence, you must also pronounce all consonants and vowels clearly. Describe Image Always start with identifying the type of image, if it is a graph, map, chart or table. Make use of erasable note board booklet to list down the important features. For maps and pictures, use words that describe their location, for instance, left, right, on the left, on the right, etc. For graphs, charts and tables, use words that describe the trend or movement, for instance, rise, increase, decrease, remain, etc. If, by any chance, you find yourself for the loss of words, never ever remain silent instead use pause fillers like let me see, um, uh, etc. Read Aloud Some of the most important things you can do to prepare yourself for the read aloud section is to listen to the podcasts, radio or audio books. This will help you get familiar with the accents, pronunciation, and the tones of English. You can also record yourself and listen back to it to point out the similarities or differences and practice to improve your tone in that way. Re-tell Lecture Make sure to be aware of the reciter's tone of voice along with the overall purpose of the lecture. You will have approximately 10 seconds to review your note, make the most of this time to organise what you have to speak and don’t remain silent. If you stay silent for more than 3 seconds, the microphone will turn off automatically.
